Task cards for elementary equal equations – with a festive twist!
2 min. readingHow many of your students struggle with equal equations? How many of your students are still not sure about that equal sign? My students had this problem too so I wanted to share my best ideas with you.
I like to use task cards for Math centers because they are so versatile. In the run up to Christmas I like to use festive themes to get students in the Christmas spirit while learning.
Equal Equations can be really hard for some students so I find task cards are a really good way to give them some extra practice.
I have created 3 different packs to help struggling students; Single Digit Equal Equations, 2-Digit Missing Numbers using Addition and Subtraction, and Equal Equations using Multiplication and Division. Each pack includes a worksheet and 30 task cards.
How I use them
These task cards are designed to help students with equal equations. I use them for math centers to help reinforce these skills. Students can work independently as they practice.
These task cards can also be used in a small group for individual instruction or extra practice for those students having trouble.
And for some fun…
Some teachers like to use the task cards to play a game of scoot. Give everyone in the class a task card and a recording sheet. Students take their recording sheet and scoot from desk to desk completing task cards. This helps get them up and moving around while still working. You can also use the worksheets for extra practice or as an assessment.
If you would like to try these activities out with your class you can find them by clicking on the blue buttons. Here is the Single Digit Addition and Subtraction Task Cards. This pack uses simple equations for the beginner!
Here is the 2-Digit Addition and Subtraction Missing Numbers Task Cards and Worksheet. Students need to pay attention to the equal sign in order to find the correct missing number.
And finally, here is Multiplication and Division Equal Equations:
I hope you find these resources useful for your class and have a wonderful winter break!
